On any given day, when Freya asks me what I would like for dinner, there is an almost 100% chance that I say pizza. I can’t pin down what it is about pizza that’s always so satisfying, but I know that I love a good vegan pizza. When Freya suggested that we head over to our Bristol Purezza on Gloucester road to review it for the blog, there was no way I was going to say no!
It’s been a while since we last visited a restaurant with the blog, so this is quite an exciting post for us. After getting over the initial nerves, we were right back on the bike and riding at full speed. After taking a few photos of the space, I ordered a lovely black coffee, and we sat to take a look at the menu. The last time we visited Purezza was back in early November for my birthday last year, and since that visit, they’ve added a few “new and improved” things on the menu that we were looking forward to!
Purezza is a 100% vegan pizza restaurant located in Brighton & Hove, London, Manchester, and Bristol. Although there are plenty of places offering vegan pizza options, it’s really great to know that all of the food at Purezza is vegan. There’s something so effortless about choosing from a 100% vegan menu; it’s a rare thing with pizza. Either you’ll need to sacrifice the cheese or risk not knowing what quality their vegan cheese will be. However, at Purezza, you have none of those worries. All their ingredients, especially their vegan cheese, are top quality, and it’s reflected in their food!
Vegan Pizza – The One With The Truffle
- Dish Type: Pizza (main)
- Price: £12
- Value: ££
- GF: No, but gluten-free base available
- Rating: 10/10
Pros: The sauce on this pizza was so deep and full of umami flavours with the delicious black truffle. You’ll notice from the pictures that both of the pizzas we tried (both on the wholegrain base) had super thin bases and gorgeous puffed-up crusts. You can tell they know what they’re doing by the almost leopard-like pattern on the crust; their huge custom pizza oven is doing a perfect job! The wild mushrooms were the perfect addition to the truffle base. Both of the pizzas we tried had their lovely and tender pulled porketta on the top. I can easily recommend this pizza to anyone who likes rich and very savoury flavours.
Cons: The truffle flavour could’ve maybe been ever so slightly stronger. But that’s just for our personal taste. But still a 10/10 pizza
Vegan Pizza – The One With The Potatoes
- Dish Type: Pizza (main)
- Price: £10
- Value: ££
- GF: No, but gluten-free base available
- Rating: 10/10
Pros: It was a close contest, but Freya and I agreed this was our favourite pizza we tried. The smoked mozzarella base is perfect for all the other veggie pizza toppings, most notably the potatoes. It’s cool to see how inventive Purezza is with their toppings; not many pizza places offer potatoes on a pizza. I’ve had potatoes on a pizza before, and I’ve always loved it, even though it may sound like a strange combo. I love that these potatoes are in bite-sized chunks, opposed to little disks, which meant they stayed light and fluffy. Delicious! The aubergine and pulled vegan porketta were super tasty and worked amazingly well with the potato.
Cons: None!
Side – Roasted Garlic & Herb Potatoes
- Dish Type: Side
- Price: £5
- Value: £
- GF: N/A
- Rating: 10/10
Pros: I loved these potatoes, we almost got the doughballs since we’d ordered a pizza with potatoes on it, but as freya pointed out, all the pizzas also have dough! I’m so glad we went for the potatoes as they were top-notch. I’ve never had a cheese sauce coat and ooze in such an appetising way as this did; it’s vegan cheese perfection! The flavours were spot on also; the garlic wasn’t overpowering, so you could still taste the lovely Italian herbs.
Cons: None, these were the perfect side!
Side – Courgetti Spaghetti
- Dish Type: Side
- Price: £
- Value: £3.50
- GF: N/A
- Rating: 8/10
Pros: To go along with all the delicious starch bread and potatoes we’d just ordered, we wanted something a little greener and fresher. The Courgetti Spaghetti is coated with creamy pesto and served with sundried tomatoes, and it hit the spot. It’s quite a novel alternative to a salad, but I wasn’t missing those leafy greens. I would definitely get this in place of a salad again.
Cons: It wasn’t the most exciting dish ever, it was very simple. For the price, however, it was good value and made a lovely addition to our pizzas.
