Cafe Review – Miranda

Miranda Cafe

It’s rare to come across a new vegan restaurant that we’ve not heard about before, so when we were walking through Crouch End and stumbled upon vegetarian/vegan place Miranda, we were very pleasantly surprised! Miranda blends so perfectly into the surrounding neighbourhood that we didn’t even realise it was a vegan cafe, which according to the owners is just what they were trying to achieve. The focus here is really delicious food, vegan or not!

We recently went down to try out their brunch menu last Sunday, and the cafe was filled with families, friends and couples enjoying their morning. When you enter the cafe you’re greeted by a lovely warm and open interior. It’s a mix of vintage and rustic furniture with industrial style fixtures and fittings. It feels cosy yet modern. As usual, we took a seat by the window and ordered some drinks. They have quite a large selections of lovely sounding lattes including a Matcha Coconut Latte, a Golden Almond Latte, and the one I chose: the Beetroot Oat Latte. As I was hoping, it had the most amazing deep pink colour, but most importantly tasted amazing too! I’d never had a beetroot latte before, but the flavour was subtle and complimented the oat milk perfectly. Charlie ordered a black Americano, which suited his taste but was a little too bitter for me, as I prefer my coffee smooth and creamy.

Now to the food! Their menu is pretty extensive with some absolutely amazing sounding main dishes, including a vegan seitan katsu curry. We’ll definitely be returning to try their evening menu. However, this time it was all about breakfast! We went for one savoury dish and one sweet for balance and to get a good sample of their menu. We had their Vegan Eggs Rancheros (Santa Maria tortilla, black beans, scrambled vegan eggs, guacamole and spicy salsa with vegan cheese and fresh pico de gallo – £9.95)

I’d not had Huevos Rancheros since going vegan so I had high hopes, and we weren’t disappointed! We especially loved the vegan scrambled eggs which made a great replacement to normal eggs. The level of spice was perfect and all the flavours combined together to make a cohesive dish. The only downside was that a lot of the textures were quite similar. There was a bit of crunch from the peppers, but some extra crunchy toppings would’ve gone down a treat! However, it was a lovely plate of food and really filled us up, you get great value for money as it was a pretty large serving!

We also ordered one of my absolute favourite things; Vegan Pancakes! They came with berry compote, banana and drizzled with maple syrup. The pancakes were lovely and fluffy, just as they ought to be! The berry compote that was drizzled over the top was the perfect accompaniment, I only wish there was more of it! What made these pancakes even more delicious was the subtle taste cinnamon throughout the batter – perfect for this time of year.

Miranda Cafe

Apart from their brunch menu, Miranda has a selection of delicious sounding sandwiches, salads, burgers, mains and cakes. It’s the perfect place to come for a laid-back lunch with family or friends where there’s something for everyone! If you’re coming with non-vegans who’ll miss eggs and dairy, then you have the option of adding halloumi or poached eggs to some of their dishes too. We had a lovely morning at Miranda cafe, the owners and all their staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We’d definitely recommend taking a trip to North London to check this place out.
