Our Goals For June

by Freya

At a time like this, it’s quite difficult to set strict goals for yourself. Everything is still so up in the air, and neither of us has any idea when we’ll be going back to work again. However, we know it’s super important for our mental wellbeing to feel like we’re achieving things and have a purpose to our day. We like to set ourselves a few small, achievable goals each month and week. Here are a few things we’d like to do in June.

01. FINISH MOVING OUR BLOG TO WORDPRESS

We’ve been working on our new website for months now, these things always take longer than you think! We’ve designed everything and are now doing the tedious job of moving each blog post over, one at a time. We can’t wait to show you once it’s done, which just motivates us more to finish it as soon as possible! We’re going to be spending the next few weeks finalising it all, so it should be all ready to go in June.

02. READ TWO NEW BOOKS

At the start of lockdown, I got really into reading more, but unfortunately, that enthusiasm has waned a bit! I’ve got two books I’d really like to read next month: The Salt Path by Raynor Winn and Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo. I’ve picked up The Salt Path and tried to read it so many times, never quite making it past the first few pages as I keep getting distracted. I really want to get into the habit of reading each day, so that’s my plan for June. Girl, Woman, Other was given to me by a friend, and the reviews are fantastic, so I’m really excited to read this. If you guys would be interested in book recommendations then do let us know!

03. LEARN TO MAKE SOME NEW COCKTAILS

We love cocktails as much as the next person, but until recently we never ventured to try and make them at home. After coming back from Mexico last year, we discovered how easy it is to make Margaritas, so they’ve become a staple pre-drink for us every since…fancy, I know! Long gone are the student days of sharing a cheap bottle of wine with your mates or a pack of beers before a night out! We’ve slowly become more adventurous with our at-home cocktails, but we’d really love to learn a few new ones. We’re going to try making an Aperol Spritz, Mojitos and maybe a few others too.

04. GO RUNNING MORE OFTEN

We didn’t quite get on the lockdown running bandwagon. We used to run a lot more when we lived in our old house in London, but we’ve let it go a bit recently. Instead, we’ve been focusing on yoga, pilates and more at home-based workouts. Now the weather is getting so summery, we’re going to make a real effort to go out running more. It always makes us feel great after, we’ve just got to get into the habit of it again!

05. DISCOVER NEW PLACES FOR WALKS

We’ve well and truly exhausted all the local walks near our house in Bristol. Now we’re allowed to take the car out and exercise away from the house, we plan to explore more of the areas surrounding Bristol. This is our first summer living here since we were kids, so we really want to make the most of our glorious British summertime! Luckily, Bristol is surrounded by the most glorious countryside in all directions, so we’ve got a lot of lovely places to choose from. There’s everything from woodlands to rolling fields, and beaches to dramatic hilltops, we really are spoilt for choice. We plan to slowly discover all the hidden gems this area of the South West has to offer.

06. FINISH DIY PROJECTS AROUND THE FLAT

Like a lot of people during this time, we have a renewed enthusiasm for DIY. It’s been the perfect time to finish those odd jobs around the house. We started off a little overzealous and began multiple projects at once, meaning we now have lots of unfinished bits around the house. Next month we plan to finally finish them all off. The main thing we want to do is finish painting all the walls. Nothing too exciting, just white paint to freshen everything up a bit! I’ve got a very long wish list of things I’d like for the house, but for now, a lot of that will have to wait!

07. PERFECT OUR WAFFLE RECIPE

We absolutely love waffles! They make such a great weekend brunch. Our waffle machine is definitely one of the better cooking-related presents I’ve been gifted over the years! We’re starting to develop our own vegan waffle recipe, which means lots of waffle tasting sessions over the next few weeks, what a shame! Look out for a recipe coming soon.
